How to Upgrade Windows XP Professional to Home
- 1). Acquire a copy of the Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade, which is readily available online. As of 2010, this will cost around $80.
- 2). Insert the Windows XP Home Edition into your CD drive. Allow Windows to locate and run the disc.
- 3). Cycle through the first few screens of the Windows Installer. These screens will simply ask if you are aware that you are upgrading Windows and ask you to accept some license agreements. You will have to enter your CD key as well; this should be available on the back of your disc case. Eventually your computer will reboot.
- 4). Move through the first few screens of the second Windows Installer after the reboot; this will simply be text on a blue screen. You will be accepting various license agreements again.
- 5). Choose which partition you want to install Windows on. Simply choose the same drive you had Windows installed on previously; it is almost always the C: drive. Windows will then install some files and reboot again.
- 6). Fill out the information asked for in the third Windows Installer. This will ask you for your name, location and time zone. It will then finish installing Windows over the next 30 to 60 minutes, and your computer will reboot for the last time. When completed, Windows XP Home will be installed.
